What We’re All About.

Ride for the Vision.

The vision for Southwest Wyoming Off-road Trails (SWOT) is to connect all of Southwest Wyoming and beyond with a series of off-road motorized trails. Not only will these trails connect National Forest, BLM and other public lands, historic sites, and landmarks along an easily accessible route, it will place thousands of tourists and recreationalists throughout Southwest Wyoming to enhance economic development opportunities in local communities along the route.

The concept of creating an ATV trail system to connect communities and sites is really nothing new, many communities throughout the country and intermountain west have completed similar projects. The difference is that there isn’t anything like this in Southwest Wyoming, or even in Wyoming for that matter.

SWOT aims to benefit these local communities by bringing tourists and recreationalists into the towns and cities for shopping, dining, lodging, supply and fuel purchases among amenities. Currently, ATVs and side by sides have access to ride from Evanston to the Bridger Valley, and the ultimate goal would be to connect the entirety of Southwest Wyoming.

SWOT has received tremendous traction in the short time the project has been underway. The towns of Evanston, Mountain View, Lyman, Kemmerer, LaBarge, Marbleton and Big Piney have all passed ordinances to allow ATV’s and side by side’s on city streets by utilizing the state’s OHV sticker.

The project utilizes existing roads and infrastructure such as two-track roads, county roads, oil field roads, wind mill roads, and more.

Wyoming Trails Program

Outdoor recreation has been an important part of the State’s way of life for many years.

Wyoming has over 640 miles of ORV trails and 2,585 snowmobile trails managed by a variety of agencies. Trail opportunities in Wyoming are many and diverse. Wyoming’s trails are located in areas ranging from deep river canyons to high desert plains, to high mountain crags and alpine meadows, to community greenways.

Our goals can only be reached through the vehicle of a plan. There is no other route to success.
— Pablo Picasso

Hikers, bicyclists, equestrians, skiers, snowmobilers, historians, ORV (off-road vehicle) riders and community pathway users all use Wyoming’s statewide system of trails.

The increasing popularity of motorized trail recreation can be gauged by the increasing demands placed on the State Trails Program which is managed by Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites, and Trails. The State Trails Program does not own any property or directly control any trail. The Program partners with other land management agencies to maintain, create and provide funding and or labor and equipment for trails.

The USFS alone enrolled over 8,000 miles of roads in the program along with nearly 425 miles of trails, 92 miles of which are single-track trails for motorcycles. -Each year riding areas are improved and new opportunities are added.

The BLM has enrolled 100% of their existing roads and trails which are estimated to be in excess of 40,000 miles. Additionally, 100% of existing roads and trails on State Trust lands and Game & Fish lands were also enrolled.

Please remember to Tread Lightly© and carry a current travel management map or land use map from the land managing agency. It is your responsibility to know local land management allowances and restrictions.

SWOT has partnered with many local, state and national organizations to encourage riders to recreate responsibly when enjoying Wyoming’s public spaces.

Whether riders are implementing “know before you go” practices by familiarizing themselves with destination resources and recreation maps or helping prevent the spread of invasive species on the trails, our partners and supporters have all the information riders need to recreate safely and responsibly.
